Artificial Intelligence and VR to prepare for lung cancer surgery

Currently, when a cancer is discovered in the lungs, a lobectomy is performed. However, quite a lot of tissue is removed during this procedure which is not always necessary. By removing the segment in which the cancer is present, less tissue is removed and the patient will be more comfortable.

Thirona’s LungQ software is used to annotate the segments of a lobe in the lungs in order to help decide which segment needs to be removed during a segmentectomy.
